چکیده

A model is developed for the ow of a slightly compressible uid through a saturated inelastic porous medium. The initial-boundary-value problem is a system that consists of the di usion equation for the uid coupled to the momentum equation for the porous solid together with a constitutive law which includes a possibly hysteretic relation of elasto-visco-plastic type. The variational form of this problem in Hilbert space is a non-linear evolution equation for which the existence and uniqueness of a global strong solution is proved by means of monotonicity methods. Various degenerate situations are permitted, such as incompressible uid, negligible porosity, or a quasi-static momentum equation. The essential su cient conditions for the well-posedness of the system consist of an ellipticity condition on the term for di usion of uid and either a viscous or a hardening assumption in the constitutive relation for the porous solid. Optical di usion of cw, pulse and density waves in scattering media and comparisons with radiative transfer

Transport theory's equation of transfer is a well-accepted model for wave scattering in a random medium. However, exact solutions are only available for a small class of special cases (isotropic scattering in in nite and semiin nite domains) and thus, analytic solutions for a wide variety of geometries and range of parameters which correspond to more physically relevant situations still remain ...

The Bichromatic Excitable Schrodinger Metamedium

In this work, we apply quantum cellular automata (QCA) to study pattern formation and image processing in quantum-di usion Schrodinger systems (QDSS) with generalized complex di usion coe cients. Generalized complex numbers have the real part and imaginary part with the imaginary unit i = −1 (classical case), i = +1 (double numbers) and i = 0 (dual numbers). They form three 2-D complex algebras...

Tritium behavior in eroded dust and debris of plasma-facing materials

Tritium behavior in plasma-facing components (PFCs) of future tokamak reactors such as ITER is an essential factor in evaluating and choosing the ideal plasma-facing materials (PFMs). One important parameter that in ̄uences tritium buildup and release in candidate materials is the e€ect of material porosity on tritium di€usion and retention. Di€usion in porous materials, for example, consists of...

Upwind Monotonic Interpolation Methods for the Solution of the Time Dependent Radiative Transfer Equation

We describe the use of upwind monotonic interpolation methods for the solution of the time-dependent radiative transfer equation in both optically thin and thick media. These methods, originally developed to solve Eulerian advection problems in hydrodynamics, have the ability to propagate sharp features in the ow with very little numerical di usion. We consider the implementation of both explic...

Observation of di usion processes in earthquake populations , and implications on the predictability of seismicity systems

Scale invariance, either in space or in time, has been shown in many papers to characterize earthquake distributions. Unfortunately, only little work has been dedicated to looking at the general space-time scaling invariance of seismicity systems, even though a better understanding of how the two domains (spatial and temporal) link together could help to the development of the stochastic dynami...
